Timeless design

Every chair tells a story. We select them carefully, restore them with artisan pride, and give them a second life – without erasing their soul. At Atelier Merkando, we understand design not as a trend, but as a philosophy: that the best doesn't have to be new. Only authentic.

Not a trend. An attitude.

A chair. A conviction. The SE 68 by Egon Eiermann is not just a piece of furniture – it is a piece of design history. We have dedicated ourselves to it: each individual piece that we hand-select, expertly restore, and equip with new precision parts. What leaves our workshop is made to last for decades – and for one reason only: because it deserves to.

What sets us apart

We don't sell a chair. We sell an SE 68 — the first German multi-purpose chair, designed in 1951 by Egon Eiermann. Each piece bears the patina of decades of use and has been restored by hand by a carpenter. No two pieces are alike.

Where are the chairs from?

Every SE 68 we have is a true original. We don't find it in a catalog — we search for it: online, in private ads, at auctions, flea markets, and wherever design history is forgotten.

How is it restored?

Every chair undergoes the same meticulous process: The wood is cleaned, carefully sanded, stained if necessary, and given a new finish — the grain remains visible, the patina preserved. The steel frame is derusted and restored. Rubber buffers and glides are replaced with new precision parts. What remains is the original character — what is new makes it perfectly functional again.

Is every chair different?

Yes — and that's not a disadvantage, but a promise. Every SE 68 tells its own story: a different grain, a different patina, a different life. Each piece is photographed individually. What you see is exactly what you get.
